- The point the author wants you to most remember.
- When you read AND WRITE, each paragraph should have a central idea that guides the supporting details.
- Should be written in the article, BUT SOMETIMES the reader must infer the central idea.
- Infer...use your schema (background knowledge) & textual evidence to come up with a new idea
