It's Monday!
Last week, we learned all about the strategies and strengths/weaknesses of both sides in the Civil War. Today, we are going to continue working with primary sources (letters) from Civil War soldiers. On Friday, you learned about Sullivan Ballou through a letter he wrote to his wife. We are going to continue learning about why soldiers enlisted (joined the army) through the use of letters.
Open your notebook, it does not have to be a new page, and make two columns: label 1 column Reasons to Join the Union Army and label the other Reasons to Join the Confederate Army. As you watch today's video, fill out the chart...why did soldiers decide to fight in a particular army? When you are finished, fill out the form below giving two reasons why each side fought.

To Dos:
- Open your notebook and make a t-chart. You probably only need half a page.
- Label one column Reasons to Join the Union Army and label the other Reasons to Join the Confederate Army.
- Watch the linked video and fill in your T-chart with reasons why soldiers from either side joined the army.
- Video link:
- Go to the bottom of today's activity and give two reasons why soldiers joined the Union army and two reasons why they joined the Confederate army.
