It's Tuesday!
Today, we are going to begin talking about the turning point (or climax) of the Civil War. Up until now, we learned about Confederate victories and stalemates. The Union did not have many clear victories until Summer of 1863.
Let's take out our notebooks and begin with some notes:

After watching this, answer the question below using ACE. Then take out your Primary Source Journal and write your entry for today. If you are stuck with what to write, go to yesterday's post and look at the Guiding Questions.
Tomorrow...we are going to have a Zoom Meeting at 1:00 PM!! (Get excited!)
I need you all to use your real names or you will not be admitted into the meeting! This is a safety measure...sorry to ruin the fun!

- Lee was leading his army north to Harrisburg, PA & had other regiments acting as decoys to fool the Northern armies
- Lee & his men lived off the land as they marched from Virginia to Pennsylvania
- A small battle took place over a supply train holding shoes in Gettysburg
- Gettysburg was a 3 day battle (July 1st-July 3rd)
- Day 1: the Union was outnumber 6,500 to 20,000 Confederates
- Confederates won the day
- Day 2: The Union Army had 94,000 soldiers and the Confederates had 72,000 because reinforcements came in
- Many losses occurred and the battle ended in a stalemate (no side won or loss)
- Lee NEEDED to win this battle
- Day 3: Lee asks General Pickett to take his 15,000 men and charge the Union forces
- Confederates move into an open field and since the Union had the high ground, they EASILY took out the Confederates and won
- More than 23,000 Yankees died
- More than 28,000 Confederates died
- Lee realized his mistake & tried to resign from the army...he was not allowed
