Today's the day....
We begin THE CIVIL WAR!
Imagine waking up at 4:30 in the morning on April 12th, 1861 to the sound of cannons. You walk outside your house and you see bombs lighting the sky like fireworks on the 4th of July. How do you feel? What do you do? Do you stay where you are? Go back in your house and hide?
The war begins in Charleston, SC on a fort named Fort Sumter in the middle of a Harbor. Remember a fort is an army post. Confederate troops bomb the fort because it is on Southern land and being held by Union soldiers.
Watch the following videos and take some notes in your notebooks to better understand what happened and see where Fort Sumter is located.
