We are almost to the WEEKEND 8th Grade!
This week we have been using a Nonfiction Guide to learn more about Polynesian myths. I had a couple questions about who the Maori were, so I thought I would give you a little background. Polynesian land is located in the Pacific Ocean. It encompasses 1,000s of islands, like Hawaii, New Zealand, Bora Bora, etc... The Maori are the native people of New Zealand. Just like we have Native American tribes in the United States, like the Apache, Iroquois, Navajo, etc. New Zealand has the Maori. So this unit is focusing on the native people of Hawaii and New Zealand. I hope that clears up a couple of questions!!
Today, we are going to look at another myth about Maui and determine where Hawaiian and Maori mythology are being used. You are going to need a couple of things today.
