This year the National Park Service is celebrating it's 100th Birthday! The 8th graders are learning about the Progressive Era in Social Studies and why Theodore Roosevelt set aside so much land. He did not want the beauty of the country to be disturbed.
After traveling to a few parks in the past couple years, I thought it was important for our students to see the beauty within America. They were put into groups and challenged to research and make a billboard that would make people want to come to their park. Students really got into this project and it was fun to hear them arguing about which waterfall was bigger and discuss whether or not rattlesnakes lived in certain parks. I hope this project sparked an interest in the National Park Service. (I know I have a few new places on my bucket list!)
